Interested in becoming a Garden Volunteer?

 Reports to: Gardening Lead
Time Commitment: Flexible – ideally a regular weekly shift (minimum 2 hours)
Training Provided: Yes (gardening techniques, tool use, health & safety, trauma-aware working) 

Purpose of the role

As a Garden Volunteer, you help nurture Stonebridge City Farm’s beautiful green spaces - including the vegetable beds, flower borders, wildlife areas, and sensory gardens. You support food growing, community wellbeing, and sustainability. Your efforts keep the farm a thriving, calming, and welcoming place for people, plants, and pollinators alike.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist with planting, weeding, watering, and harvesting produce and flowers
  • Help maintain paths, compost areas, raised beds, and greenhouses
  • Use hand tools safely and return them clean and correctly stored
  • Support wildlife-friendly practices, such as composting or building bug habitats
  • Help prepare produce for sale or donation, including weighing and packing
  • Work respectfully with other volunteers, including those with additional needs
  • Engage positively with visitors, answering basic questions or signposting
  • Use trauma-aware practice, recognising that the garden may be a place of healing and peace for others

  • Enjoys  being outdoors in all weathers and working with their hands
  • Respectful of nature, people, and the shared space
  • Able to follow instructions and work both independently and in a team
  • Willing to learn new skills and try different garden tasks
  • Calm, reliable, and mindful of others’ pace and needs

Additional Information

Volunteering in the garden is physical but adaptable. Roles can include seated seed sowing, light weeding, compost turning, or creative tasks such as making signs or labels. We welcome people of all abilities and will work with you to find a rhythm and routine that suits your skills, energy, and confidence.
