Time Commitment: Flexible - ideally a regular weekly shift (minimum 2 hours)

Purpose of the Role
Maintenance & Cleaning Volunteers help keep Stonebridge City Farm clean, safe, and welcoming for visitors, animals, and volunteers. You play a vital behind-the-scenes role in ensuring everything runs smoothly - from fixing gates to cleaning toilets, from painting fences to clearing paths. Your work protects the health and dignity of everyone on site.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out general cleaning tasks, including bins, toilets, handwashing stations, and visitor areas
- Support maintenance jobs, such as sweeping paths, mending fences, clearing leaves, and checking lighting
- Assist with basic painting, repairs, or DIY, depending on skill and supervision
- Report hazards or damage promptly to staff for safety follow-up
- Use cleaning materials safely, following COSHH and SCF hygiene procedures
- Keep storerooms and equipment clean and organised
- Respect shared spaces, including café, classrooms, and children’s play areas
- Use trauma-aware practice, especially when working around vulnerable volunteers or anxious visitors
Ideal Qualities
- Practical, hands-on, and enjoys physical tasks
- Reliable and happy to work quietly and independently
- Observant, with a good eye for things that need fixing or tidying
- Willing to follow instructions, safety rules, and cleaning standards
- Respectful of others and non-judgemental about challenging or unpleasant tasks
