As well as providing training and support for our many volunteers, we also welcome several local colleges on site each week. Animal Care students are able to come to the farm and receive hands-on training and experience with our animals.

We also take students on placements, providing practical training to aid theory to practice in animal care, horticulture, food and hygiene and cleaning and maintenance.

Also students in alternative provision come to the farm to gain useful vocational skills.

We support many organisations looking to equip those they support with hands-on experience.

The Skill Mill /Stonebridge City Farm collaboration

The  Skill Mill is a social enterprise providing employment opportunities  for young ex-offenders aged between 16 and 18 - actively reducing  re-offending whilst increasing engagement, participation, employability  and educational levels to increase their life chances.

The  Skill Mill Nottingham have been coming to the farm three days per week  since 10thAugust – gardening, landscaping and erecting our new  polytunnel. We’re very sorry to see them finish on 11thSeptember, as  they move on to a new project. The collaboration between the farm and  The Skill Mill has been so positive for all involved, please see below  from The Skill Mill Nottingham:

PROJECT–  The Skill Mill provides employment opportunities in water and  land-based management, helping to reduce flood risk and improve the  local environment. Each young person receives six months paid  employment, invaluable practical real work experience, a nationally  recognised qualification, and further opportunities for progression with  local companies at the end of their time with The Skill Mill.

SKILLS–  The engagement, participation, employability and educational levels of  the young people are increased, moving them closer to long term  sustainable employment. Working alongside Stonebridge City Farm has been  a fantastic opportunity for our young people to develop their skills  and most importantly confidence.

POSITIVE CHANGES – The young people which The Skill Mill employ appreciate the  opportunity to participate in meaningful work. They are committed, eager  to learn, and demonstrate the qualities of a good team member. The  employees have taken a great amount of pride in their work at  Stonebridge City Farm and have enjoyed spending time with the farm’s  diverse community.

QUOTES FROM PARTICIPANTS - ‘It’s really helped my confidence’, ‘I’ve gained new skills and  experience’, ‘I’ve become more adaptable’, ‘I have a legal pathway for  the future’, ‘I’ve learnt good time keeping’!

Thank you to The Skill Mill from the whole team at Stonebridge City Farm – we loved having
